Gingerbread house plans, every piece measured

A gingerbread house is six pieces: two gable walls, two side walls and two roof panels. This plan is a 7 by 9 inch house with 5-inch walls; every measurement is below, and the pattern prints at true scale.

Cut list

Side walls are two dough thicknesses shorter than the depth, so they fit between the front and back.

The finished house stands exactly 7 by 9 inches, takes about 4 lb (1,770 g) of dough at 1/4″, and prints on 8 Letter sheets. The 10″ roof panels are longer than a sheet, so each prints in two parts you tape together.

    How the pieces fit

The gable walls stand at the front and back. The side walls sit between them, which is why they are shorter than the depth. The roof panels rest on the side walls and meet at the peak, overhanging a little all round.

    Questions

Why are the side walls shorter than the house is deep?

The front and back walls cover the side walls' ends. Taking two dough thicknesses off each side wall keeps the outside of the house exactly the depth you picked.

Do the plans include a door and windows?

No. The pieces are plain walls and roof panels. Cut a door and windows by hand from the front wall before baking.

    Can I change the plan?

Yes. Type any width, depth, wall height or roof pitch above, and the measurements and printed pattern change with it.

Print at "Actual size" on Letter paper and measure the 1-inch bar on each sheet before you cut. Pieces are plain walls and roof panels: cut doors and windows by hand.
