Small gingerbread house template
A small house 4 inches wide and 5 deep, with 3-inch walls, takes about 1 lb of dough rolled 3/16 inch thick and prints on 3 sheets. For a tiny 3-inch house, tap Mini.
Side walls are two dough thicknesses shorter than the depth, so they fit between the front and back.
Your six pieces
The small house, worked
- Front and back wall, cut 2: 4″ wide and 5″ to the peak (3″ wall plus 2″ of gable).
- Side wall, cut 2: 4 5/8″ by 3″: the 5″ depth minus two 3/16″ thicknesses.
- Roof panel, cut 2: 5 3/4″ by 3 1/4″, with a 3/8″ overhang.
Dough: about 16 oz (450 g). Small pieces are easier to cut from thinner dough, so this one starts at 3/16″.
The mini house
Mini is 3 by 3 inches with 2-inch walls, 3 1/2″ to the peak, cut from dough rolled 1/8″ thick: about 5 oz (140 g), on 2 sheets. It is the smallest size the maker draws.
Questions
How small can the template go?
3 inches wide and deep, with 2-inch walls. Below that the pieces are hard to cut cleanly.
Can I make several small houses from one batch?
Add up the dough for each house. A small house takes about 1 lb; weigh your batch and divide.
Does a thinner dough change the template?
Only the side walls. They are two thicknesses shorter than the depth, so thinner dough makes them a little longer.
